What is a doula?

A doula is a specially trained birth companion that provides support for birthing people and their families during pregnancy, labor and postpartum. A doulas responsibility is to enhance communication and relationship between families and care providers. Doulas provide educational, emotional, physical, mental and spiritual support.

*A doula does NOT replace professional medical care nor perform medical procedures, diagnosis or any other medical necessities.


Are there different types of doulas?

Birth Doulas: assistance before and during labor/childbirth

Postpartum Doulas: aide new parents after baby’s born

Antepartum Doulas: support pregnant people on bed rest or have high-risk pregnancies

Abortion Doulas: offers emotional and physical support during and after a medical termination

Bereavement Doulas: comforts parents who experience pregnancy or infant loss

Adoption Doulas: guides birth parents and adoptive parents through adoption process

Full Spectrum Doulas: supports any reproductive outcome or choice

Baby Doulas: cares for newborns, helps with feedings, sleeping and bonding

As a Full Spectrum Indigenous Birth Worker, I have the ability to support any unique and in-between experiences that a birthing person may encounter. This includes, but not limited to: pregnancy, abortion, miscarriage, stillbirth, birth&labor, postpartum, lactation, grief&loss.
